A devastating bridge collapse in Ecuador has left at least four people dead, with rescuers racing against time to find one more person still missing.

The 200-meter suspension bridge, a crucial link north of the port city of Guayaquil, gave way on Wednesday, sending four trucks, a car, and two motorbikes plunging into the Magro River. Dramatic footage from the scene showed vehicles teetering on the edge of the wreckage, with parts of the structure submerged in the river below.

Authorities confirmed that four bodies had been recovered, while search operations continued. The bridge, which connected Guayas province to other regions, reportedly showed no prior signs of damage. However, Guayas governor Marcela Aguinaga suggested that overloading may have been a factor in the collapse.

This disaster comes amid Ecuador’s relentless rainy season, which has already caused deadly landslides and flooding, killing at least 20 people and damaging 45 bridges across the country.
