Benue Commits Over ₦149.5 Billion to Major Infrastructure Overhaul – Roads, Water, and More in the Works!

The Benue State Government has greenlit an ambitious ₦149.5 billion infrastructure revamp, targeting key roads, water supply, and government facilities across the state.

At its fourth Executive Council meeting of 2025, held at the Government House in Makurdi, the Council approved several transformative projects, including road expansions, water rehabilitation, and government building upgrades.

Water Supply Gets a Long-Awaited Boost

One of the immediate actions includes a ₦1.5 billion payment to Chinese construction giant CGC for the long-overdue rehabilitation of the Otobi/Otukpo and Katsina-Ala Water Works, originally built over a decade ago. The Ministry of Water Resources has been directed to engage CGC to restore water supply to Otobi, Otukpo, and surrounding areas.

Major Road Projects to Ease Traffic & Boost Economy

The Council also approved key road projects aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities. The extension and dualization of the Wurukum-Airforce Base Road, pegged at ₦68.3 billion, will include the construction of a five-span bridge at Mu and will be executed by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nigeria Ltd.

Additionally, a ₦73.9 billion upgrade of the Mbawuar–Bako-Negher–Mbaakon Road was approved to enhance road safety and cut travel time. This project will also be handled by M/S Bahaus Global Investment Nig. Ltd.

Upgrades for Government Facilities

To improve operational efficiency, the Council sanctioned a ₦1.1 billion renovation of the Deputy Governor’s Lodge, awarded to Welltime Limited. The Benue State Assembly Complex and Clinic will also undergo a ₦4.5 billion reconstruction, managed by Gerewa Global Engineering Ltd., to provide modern facilities for lawmakers and staff.

Federal Nod for Infectious Disease Control Centre

In a related development, the Council acknowledged the Federal Government’s approval of an Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya LGA, following a request from Governor Hyacinth Alia. This move is in response to rising concerns over infectious diseases in the state.

With these massive investments, Benue is poised for a significant infrastructural transformation, promising better roads, improved water access, and enhanced government facilities for its citizens.
