The rich sounds of jazz echoed through Victoria Island, Lagos, as Saxophone Hub & Vital Edge welcomed two distinguished professors from Berklee College of Music, Godwin Louis and Jhony Keys, for an exclusive event dedicated to nurturing Africa’s next generation of musical talents.

Hosted by Ambassador Afolabi Oke (Ambassador of the African Union 6th Region to Nigeria, ECOWAS), the event reinforced the commitment to talent development, global collaborations, and amplifying African musical excellence.

For Grammy-nominated saxophonist, educator, and composer Godwin Louis, Africa’s jazz scene is on the brink of global recognition. He expressed his excitement over the progress seen at Saxophone Hub, particularly among young saxophonists.

“I’m amazed by the growth of the kids here and their deep understanding of music. The global market is ready for these budding gems,” Louis said.

Speaking on the inspiration behind Saxophone Hub, its CEO and founder, Jerry Omole, highlighted the mission to groom musicians who not only master their craft but also carry the African sound to the world.

“Music has no retirement. It enhances whatever dream you have, and we are here to build musicians who will take African music to greater heights,” Omole stated.

Saxophone Hub’s collaboration with Backcountry Jazz Initiatives, led by Bennie Wallace, continues to provide scholarship opportunities for young saxophonists. Additionally, Berklee College of Music is awarding scholarships to some of the most outstanding musicians emerging from the hub.
