Why Ibadan Airport is Temporarily Shut Down – FAAN Explains

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has shed light on the recent temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA) in Ibadan, citing ongoing upgrade works aimed at transforming it into an international airport.

According to FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has officially shut down the airport’s runway in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.

A Step Towards an International Airport

The closure, driven by the Oyo State Government’s initiative to elevate Ibadan Airport’s status, is part of a broader remodeling and improvement plan.

“For safety reasons and in line with aviation standards, the closure became necessary to protect passengers and airport personnel during the construction period,” Orah explained.
