In a groundbreaking move to combat border crimes, the Anambra and Enugu State Police Commands have come together to develop a unified strategy aimed at tackling rising security threats across their shared borders. This new collaboration, spearheaded by Anambra’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, and Enugu’s Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Giwa, marks a significant step in enhancing policing efforts in the two neighboring states.
The two police leaders met on Monday to devise operational strategies in line with the enhanced policing guidelines set by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. The aim is to proactively address criminal activities, including the growing concerns over cross-border infiltration by criminal elements.
According to a statement issued by Anambra State Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the meeting identified the infiltration of criminals between the two states as a critical security challenge. This cross-border crime has been linked to violent offenses and subversive criminal activities, which require immediate and coordinated intervention. As a result, both commissioners have pledged to share intelligence and pool their resources to combat these threats effectively.
“The Commissioners reiterated their commitment to decisively combat all forms of crime in both states to ensure maximum public security and safety,” the statement read. They also issued a stern warning to criminals, urging them to either cease their illegal activities or face the full force of the law.
The meeting, which was held at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, was attended by key law enforcement officials, including the Deputy Commissioners of Police in charge of Operations and other senior officers from both commands. This new joint effort marks a major development in ensuring peace and security for residents of Anambra and Enugu, and serves as a strong message to criminals operating within the region.
This collaboration between the two state police commands is expected to strengthen the fight against cross-border crime, ultimately improving safety and public order in both states.
