The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Falade, for allegedly posing as a retired United States Navy Captain, only for it to be revealed that his claims were completely fabricated. Falade’s false identity and his involvement in stirring unrest in the Idogun community of Ose Local Government Area have raised concerns, with the police now taking decisive action against him.
Fake Military Officer Behind Community Tensions in Ondo
Speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital, on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, shared details of the arrest. He explained that Falade had been causing mayhem in Idogun for years, using his fake military background to intimidate and manipulate local residents. The police chief revealed that after multiple reports of Falade’s disruptive behavior, he was eventually apprehended and taken to court, where he was remanded in a correctional center in Akure.
Afolabi described how Falade, who had been falsely claiming to be a retired Navy Captain from the U.S. military, continued to escalate tensions in the community despite police attempts to mediate. “When I initially called him in for questioning, his response was aggressive and uncooperative,” Afolabi stated. Despite efforts to restore peace through a meeting at the police mess, Falade’s actions only exacerbated the situation, leading to further chaos.
Falade’s Nefarious Activities and His Fake Military Ties
According to the police, Falade, along with his supporters, had been involved in criminal activities, including the abduction of locals heading to the farm and the theft of their property. He was also reportedly seen carrying fake military documents and was accompanied by individuals posing as air force personnel. Afolabi expressed frustration at Falade’s repeated attempts to cause unrest in the community, noting that the situation had reached a breaking point.
The police took swift action, arresting Falade and charging him with multiple criminal offenses. He faced 10 charges, including theft, impersonation, and inciting violence. Following his arrest, supporters of Falade attempted to provoke more riots, leading to more police intervention to restore order. During the ensuing chaos, one police officer was injured by a machete, but the situation was eventually brought under control.
Call for Peace and Lawful Solutions
Afolabi emphasized the importance of resolving community issues through lawful means, urging the residents of Ondo State to avoid resorting to violence or illegal activities. “We must all work together to address challenges peacefully and lawfully, without resorting to violence,” he concluded.
This case highlights the growing concern over the use of fake military identities to manipulate communities and create instability. With Falade now facing justice, the Ondo State Police are committed to maintaining peace and ensuring that such disruptions are swiftly addressed.
