The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) community is in mourning after a horrific auto accident claimed the lives of five students on the Ikire-Ibadan expressway.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Balogun Area in Ikire, involved a luxury bus from Ibadan and an 18-seater passenger bus from Osogbo. A head-on collision between the two vehicles led to multiple fatalities, including five UNIOSUN students.

Victims Identified

In a statement, UNIOSUN’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, confirmed the names of the deceased students:

Olagbemide Dotun (200-level Software Engineering)

Suleiman Farouq (400-level Law)

Ogundare Pelumi (300-level Public Health)

Ogundare Elijah (100-level Mechanical Engineering)

Olawuyi Mary (200-level Nursing)

However, one student, Olagbemide Damilola (200-level Medicine and Surgery), survived and is currently receiving treatment.

University Reacts to the Tragedy

“Our University Management immediately dispatched a team to the scene to identify and support our students. This tragic loss has deeply shaken our community,” the statement read.

UNIOSUN is working with the Nigerian Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to investigate the cause of the accident and provide support to the victims’ families, including funeral arrangements.
