With the Eid El-Fitr celebrations around the corner, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has ramped up security in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), deploying 4,000 officers to ensure a peaceful and safe festivity.
FCT Commandant Dr. Olusola Odumosu, through a statement by Command Spokesperson DSC Monica Ojobi, emphasized that the move aims to protect lives, property, and critical infrastructure before, during, and after the celebrations.
The deployment covers strategic locations, including prayer grounds, shopping malls, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, government buildings, and diplomatic areas. Specialized units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Counter-Terrorism, and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives (CBRNE) teams are actively involved.
Undercover operatives have also been stationed across identified black spots, including uncompleted buildings that could serve as criminal hideouts, to preempt any security threats.
Commandant Odumosu has issued strict directives to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers, ensuring maximum vigilance and proactive measures to prevent any breach. He assured residents of a safe celebration and encouraged them to report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
Meanwhile, he sent a stern warning to criminals and vandals, stressing that NSCDC operatives are on high alert and will not hesitate to bring offenders to justice.
As the Muslim community in the FCT prepares for Eid, the NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order, wishing all celebrants a joyous and peaceful holiday.
