The Premier League is set for an unusual summer transfer period, with two separate windows confirmed due to “exceptional” circumstances surrounding the FIFA Club World Cup.

The first transfer window will open earlier than usual, running from Sunday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 10. It will then pause before reopening on Monday, June 16, and closing on Monday, September 1—aligning with the traditional schedule.

This adjustment follows FIFA’s announcement of a temporary registration period for clubs participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, starting June 14. The move is expected to benefit teams like Chelsea and Manchester City, allowing them to complete transfers and finalize contracts before the tournament kicks off.

However, the decision wasn’t without controversy. Many Premier League clubs had initially opposed the idea, fearing they would be at a disadvantage if unable to make transfers during the FIFA-mandated period. Their concerns led to discussions at a Premier League meeting on Thursday, resulting in the two-window solution.

A Premier League statement confirmed:
“The window will open early, between Sunday, June 1, and Tuesday, June 10, due to an exceptional registration period relating to the FIFA Club World Cup. It will then reopen on Monday, June 16, and close on Monday, September 1.”

Last summer, the transfer window ran from June 14 to August 30, making this change a rare shift in the English football calendar.
