Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested three employees of an electrical company for allegedly stealing company-owned wires in what appears to be an inside-job scandal.
The suspects, identified as Excellent Victor, Favour Kpenu, and Francis Amos, were caught red-handed while attempting to remove and conceal electrical wires, according to the state police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John.
“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives apprehended the suspects in the act. Upon interrogation, they confessed to the crime,” John stated.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the full scope of their involvement, and the suspects will face charges upon conclusion of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, has reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on crime, urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid law enforcement.
With company thefts on the rise, the case serves as a reminder that security breaches can often come from within.
