Panic swept through Ifejika Street near Onitsha Main Market on Friday morning as a raging fire engulfed a two-storey warehouse filled with textile materials.

According to the Anambra State Fire Service, the distress call came in at 6:20 a.m., prompting an immediate response. Fire Chief Chukwudi Chiketa confirmed that multiple firefighting trucks and personnel were deployed to battle the flames.

“The fire has spread to some nearby residential buildings, but we are making concerted efforts to contain the situation,” Chiketa assured.

As thick smoke billowed into the sky, concerned residents and business owners scrambled to salvage whatever goods they could before the fire consumed them. Meanwhile, security agencies and members of the public joined forces to support firefighters in their mission.

While the cause of the blaze remains unknown, authorities have urged residents to remain calm as efforts to fully extinguish the fire continue.
