The Lagos State Police Command has debunked reports of a surge in kidnappings along Gbagada Expressway, labeling them as recycled fake news meant to cause panic.
Command spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, clarified that no such security alert was issued and urged residents to disregard the claims.
“This same false report first surfaced in January 2024, resurfaced in September 2024, and has now been reintroduced in March 2025. Each time, it has been proven to be baseless,” Hundeyin stated.
However, acknowledging public concerns, the Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered a reassessment of security measures in the area to ensure continued safety for residents and commuters.
“Security in the Gbagada area and across Lagos will be continuously reviewed and strengthened,” Hundeyin added.

Additionally, CP Jimoh has directed law enforcement agencies to track down those spreading the false reports and bring them to justice.
The police warned against the spread of misinformation, emphasizing that legal action will be taken against those found guilty of inciting fear through fake news.
