Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has strongly denied reports linking him to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made it clear that he is not a member of the ruling party, nor does he have any intention of joining.
The denial came after a report circulated on social media, claiming that Obi’s name was mentioned at an APC gathering. Obi wasted no time in setting the record straight, saying, “Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives.”
Obi reiterated his unwavering stance on politics, emphasizing integrity, fairness, and issue-based discussions. He stressed that political engagement should focus on competence, capacity, and compassion, qualities essential for building a better Nigeria and improving states like Anambra.
“The toxic narratives and personal attacks must stop,” Obi said, urging that elections and primaries be driven by credibility and a vision for progress, not by dragging individuals into baseless controversies.
Regarding the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, Obi also commented on the candidacy of Valentine Ozigbo, a former Labour Party aspirant. He stated that Ozigbo, like all political aspirants, should be evaluated based on his leadership qualities, emphasizing the need for fair, transparent, and credible primaries.
“As we approach the Anambra governorship election in November, it is crucial that all parties ensure a democratic process. We must uphold justice and reject toxic politics,” Obi added. “This is the only path to achieving the true democracy Nigeria desperately needs.”
In closing, Obi urged all political parties to embrace free and fair primaries, calling on all stakeholders to act with integrity and avoid personal attacks or manipulation. His message was clear: it’s time to move beyond toxic politics and towards a better, more democratic Nigeria.
