Port Harcourt – In a heated response to allegations linking him to attacks on oil pipelines, suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has dismissed claims made by his former Head of Service, Dr. George Nweke, calling them outright falsehoods driven by ulterior motives.
Fubara, in a statement released on Saturday in Port Harcourt, accused Nweke of being “compromised” and pressured into making baseless accusations against him. His reaction comes after Nweke addressed the press in Abuja on Friday, alleging Fubara’s involvement in clandestine political meetings and sabotage of national assets.
The embattled governor described the allegations as “laughable,” questioning how Nweke, in his capacity as Head of Service, could have been privy to such high-level political discussions.
“It is absurd to suggest that Nweke was involved in my supposed meetings with Bala Mohammed or any militant groups. Such meetings never happened,” Fubara stated.
He further clarified that Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, only visited Rivers State in his role as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, an event that was publicly known and not a secret political plot.
Dismissing the claim that he orchestrated attacks on oil pipelines, Fubara insisted he has always been an advocate for peace, even under provocation.
“The truth is, Nweke has been compromised. He is either being paid or coerced into making these false claims against me,” Fubara added, urging Nigerians to disregard the allegations as mere political maneuvering to tarnish his image.
The suspended governor concluded by warning that such accusations threaten to disrupt the peace efforts currently being championed by President Bola Tinubu.
