For Spunky DJ Unknown, DJing wasn’t just a passion—it was survival. Taiwo Kujore, better known by his stage name, started his journey as a way to make ends meet while studying at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU). Today, he spins at elite yacht parties in Dubai, blending Afrobeats, House, Hip-Hop, and EDM into electrifying sets.
“DJing gave me a way to work during the day and still make money at night. Over time, I fell in love with it,” he shares. Inspired by his cousin, DJ Gabbysash, and shaped by mentors like DJ Kuljay and DJ TLM, Spunky honed his craft and built his signature sound.
From high-energy sets at the Lagos State Carnival DJ auditions to commanding international crowds in Dubai, his career has been fueled by a mix of skill, resilience, and adaptability. “Every set is a story. The best performances happen when you can read the crowd and switch things up in real time,” he says.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Spunky acknowledges that navigating audience expectations and criticism is one of the toughest parts of the job. “90% of the crowd loves what you do, but there’s always that 10% who will criticize no matter what. The trick is staying professional and focused.”
For aspiring DJs, he shares five golden rules: master the basics, practice daily, build strong industry relationships, create a unique sound, and never stop learning. With AI and digital innovation shaping the future of DJing, Spunky believes the next evolution lies in live remixing and interactive performances.
From Lagos hustle to Dubai’s high life, Spunky DJ Unknown is proving that passion, skill, and a little audacity can turn any dream into reality.
