In a significant move ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial elections, the Cross River State All Progressives Congress (APC) has unanimously endorsed the state governor, Bassey Otu, and his deputy, Peter Odey, as the party’s sole candidates for the upcoming race. This was confirmed during a press briefing held on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Calabar.
Alphonsus Eba, the State Chairman of APC, highlighted the leadership qualities, loyalty, and proven governance track record of both Otu and Odey. He emphasized that “nobody changes a winning team,” reinforcing the party’s confidence in the current leadership. Eba also stressed the importance of grassroots mobilization and urged all party members and support groups to work towards ensuring victory in 2027.
While Otu and Odey’s positions have been solidified, Eba made it clear that other political positions within the state remain open for contest, except for the governorship and deputy governorship seats.
“It’s almost one year and ten months in office, and I am here to show that we made the best choice,” Eba said. “That’s why we’ve decided to announce that Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu is our sole candidate for the governorship election in 2027, alongside His Excellency, the acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey. We’ve seen loyalty, intellect, and strong support from the deputy governor, which is why this ticket is the best choice for the state.”
Eba further expressed that this endorsement underscores the belief in the strength of the current leadership team, stating, “Nobody changes a winning team,” and reassured the party’s commitment to success in the upcoming election.
He also acknowledged the alignment of Otu and Odey with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a necessary step to prevent the escalation of conflicts in the region.
As the Cross River APC prepares for the 2027 elections, Eba urged all party members and supporters to unite, strengthen their efforts, and reach out to those in the opposition to ensure a smooth path to victory.
