Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, was joined by former Governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, on Monday for a tour of the highly anticipated Ibadan Circular Road Project, which has been named in honor of Ladoja. The two leaders inspected the 32.2-kilometer East Wing of the project, which is rapidly nearing completion and promises to transform the region’s infrastructure.
The East Wing, which connects the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road, marks a significant milestone in the development of the project. Initially conceived by Ladoja during his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2007, the Ibadan Circular Road Project is now being executed under the leadership of Governor Makinde. Once completed, the road is expected to drastically reduce traffic congestion in the bustling Ibadan metropolis and promote industrial growth throughout the state.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser (Media) to the governor, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, it was highlighted that the circular road will be Nigeria’s first motorway. Governor Makinde emphasized the project’s far-reaching impact: “With this circular road, we are redefining not just Ibadan’s city limits but also the surrounding local governments,” he said.
The Makinde administration is committed to completing the first phase of the project, which includes the 32.2km East Wing and the 36.7km North-East Wing extending from Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government Area. This ambitious infrastructure project is poised to pave the way for a brighter, more connected future for Oyo State.
The inspection tour was attended by key dignitaries, including Chief Bayo Lawal, Senior Executive Assistant (General Administration) to the governor, among others. With the project on track, the people of Oyo State are eagerly awaiting the full transformation of their road networks and economic prospects.
