The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed circulating reports claiming that Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Adewale Adeniyi’s tenure has been extended, labeling the news as false and misleading.
No Official Directive on Tenure Extension – Customs PRO
In an official statement on Tuesday, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, clarified that no such extension has been approved by the appropriate authorities.
“The attention of the NCS has been drawn to a fake release allegedly from the State House regarding an extension of the tenure of the CGC, Adewale Adeniyi. The NCS wishes to categorically state that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” Maiwada stated.
He emphasized that appointments and tenure extensions for the CGC are solely at the discretion of the President, in accordance with the NCS Act 2023 and other relevant regulations governing public service.
Customs Urges Public to Ignore False Reports
Maiwada urged the public and stakeholders to rely only on official channels for accurate information, warning against the spread of unverified claims.
“Updates regarding appointments or tenure decisions will be formally communicated through the appropriate government authorities,” he assured.
NCS Focused on Key Reforms & National Security
Despite the speculation, Adeniyi’s leadership remains focused on implementing customs modernization reforms, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and driving economic growth.
The NCS reaffirmed its commitment to trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security, ensuring transparency and professionalism in all its operations.
As misinformation spreads, stakeholders are encouraged to verify news through official sources to avoid confusion and unnecessary speculation.
