Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is confident that he will walk free by April 2025, despite his prolonged detention by the Department of State Services (DSS). However, he isn’t holding back on his disappointment with Igbo political leaders, whom he accuses of neglecting their people’s struggle.

This revelation came from Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, President-General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), FCT, after his visit to Kanu at the DSS headquarters in Abuja. According to Ezenekwe, Kanu remains physically healthy, mentally strong, and unwavering in his belief that justice will prevail.

“Igbo Leaders Have Gone Silent” – Kanu Laments

Despite his optimism, Kanu expressed deep frustration over the lack of strong Igbo leadership, lamenting that the people’s voices are fading when they should be louder than ever. He recalled past struggles of other Igbo freedom fighters, such as Ralph Uwazurike, who was abandoned after his own incarceration.

“This neglect weakens our fight for self-determination,” Kanu reportedly warned, urging the Igbo people to stand firm and demand their rights.

A Direct Appeal to President Tinubu

In a bold move, Ezenekwe used the opportunity to call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in Kanu’s case. He reminded Tinubu of his pro-democracy activism in the past and urged him to demonstrate political will by ensuring Kanu’s release.

“The continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu is not a symbol of justice, but of political repression,” Ezenekwe said, emphasizing that Kanu’s freedom could serve as a step toward national reconciliation.
