The Federal Government has assured Nigerians residing in the Middle East that their safety remains a top priority amid the escalating conflict in the region.

The reassurance was given by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission through its Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, who confirmed that authorities are closely monitoring developments.

According to the commission, several Nigerians living in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Iran have contacted government officials to inquire about possible evacuation plans should the crisis worsen.

NiDCOM explained that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with relevant agencies to determine appropriate measures. The commission urged Nigerians in affected countries to strictly adhere to official travel advisories and maintain contact with emergency lines provided by the ministry.

The government had earlier advised Nigerians, particularly those in Iran and other Gulf nations, to heighten their security awareness following renewed hostilities in the region. Citizens were warned to avoid strategic, military, and government facilities that could become potential flashpoints.

The conflict intensified after the United States and Israel reportedly carried out coordinated strikes on Iranian targets. Iran subsequently responded with missile and drone attacks aimed at locations across parts of the Gulf.

In Riyadh, drones struck the United States embassy headquarters, causing visible structural damage. Security operatives sealed off parts of the diplomatic district while authorities condemned the attack.

Explosions were also reported in Bahrain and again in Qatar, while Iranian forces announced operations targeting sites in Israel and a major American air base in Qatar. Qatari officials stated that attempts to strike its airport were intercepted.

The situation has drawn global concern, with the United Nations expressing alarm over the growing civilian impact of the conflict. Reports also indicated fresh damage at Iran’s Natanz nuclear enrichment facility.
