At least two people were confirmed dead on Sunday after a serious multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at the Kara Bridge corridor, inward Mowe. Several other commuters sustained injuries in the incident, which involved a heavy-duty truck and multiple vehicles on the high-traffic route. Preliminary findings indicate that the accident happened after a truck transporting bags of flour reportedly lost control and crashed into other vehicles, including commercial buses, on the roadway. A Toyota Corolla that had earlier been parked on the bridge due to mechanical issues was also hit, leaving its driver injured. Emergency response teams from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency swiftly arrived at the scene to rescue victims and regulate traffic. In a statement shared via its official social media platform, LASTMA confirmed that the crash involved a truck, a Toyota Corolla, a RAV4 sports utility vehicle, and two fully loaded interstate buses. The agency disclosed that injured persons were promptly evacuated to medical facilities for treatment. According to LASTMA, officers of the Nigeria Police Force and traffic officials were deployed to secure the area and prevent further incidents while recovery operations were ongoing. The crash led to heavy traffic congestion along the expressway, with motorists experiencing long delays for several hours. Traffic flow later improved after parts of the affected vehicles were removed from the road. Officials assured road users that personnel remained on ground to maintain safety and ensure steady vehicular movement in collaboration with other traffic agencies. The latest accident has renewed public concern over safety conditions on the Kara Bridge, a location known for repeated fatal crashes. In a previous incident in October 2025, several lives were lost in a similar accident involving trucks, including a fuel tanker, at the same spot. Authorities have yet to issue a detailed report on the latest crash, including the confirmed number of casualties.
