The second batch of solar-powered street lights has arrived in Ado Local Government Area as the administration of the Chairman, Engr. Sunny Oche, intensifies the implementation of its Operation Light Up Ado solarisation programme, which is in line with the Operation Light Up Benue State by the Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia (PhD). The latest consignment further demonstrates the Chairman’s determination to ensure that the ongoing exercise is sustained and extended to more communities, public spaces and strategic locations across the ten wards of the Local Government.
The arrival of the second batch comes on the heels of the positive reception that greeted the first phase of the project, which prioritised public locations and major streets across the Local Government. Beyond providing illumination, the initiative is designed to improve visibility at night, strengthen community safety, support evening economic activities and enhance the general appearance and functionality of public spaces. The use of solar-powered lighting also provides a sustainable alternative to conventional electricity, particularly in locations where regular power supply may be unavailable or unreliable.
A notable feature of the exercise is the Chairman’s insistence on broad coverage, with deliberate efforts to ensure that no ward and no strategically important location is left behind. Rather than concentrating the intervention in a few areas, the administration is working towards extending the benefits of the programme across the Local Government. This approach reflects an understanding that meaningful grassroots development must be inclusive and must be felt across communities, regardless of their location within the Local Government Area.
The steady arrival and deployment of the solar lights therefore represent more than the delivery of infrastructure; they are tangible indications of the administration’s commitment to translating its development plans into visible projects. Engr. Sunny Oche deserves commendation for sustaining the momentum of the programme and for demonstrating consistency in pursuing an initiative that was earlier announced as part of his administration’s development agenda. As subsequent phases unfold, residents can look forward to more streets and strategic public locations being illuminated, making Ado safer, more accessible and more vibrant after dark.
Operation Light Up Ado is gradually moving from a promise to a visible reality and with the continued commitment of the Local Government administration, the light is set to reach more communities across all ten wards.
