The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has partnered with Meta, in collaboration with the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN), to establish AI Academy Nigeria.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening artificial intelligence skills among Nigerian technology talents and expanding opportunities for developers, entrepreneurs and members of the country’s digital skills ecosystem.
The academy will provide training in areas including generative artificial intelligence, prompt engineering, multimodal AI, data analytics and application development using Meta’s Llama models.
The programme will also feature an AI Startup Pitchathon and a six-week Developer Bootcamp. The training is expected to provide participants with practical skills relevant to the growing artificial intelligence sector.
According to information provided by Meta, the initiative will be open to members of the wider 3MTT community. The top 100 participants are expected to receive scholarships towards Meta Blueprint certifications, alongside up to $5,000 in advertising credits.
The partnership will also provide opportunities for Nigerian startups through the AI Startup Pitchathon. Applications for the pitchathon are scheduled to close on August 21, while 10 selected startups are expected to pitch at GITEX Nigeria on September 3.
Two winning startups will receive $5,000 each, in addition to $2,000 in Meta advertising credits, and will have the opportunity to represent Nigeria at Meta’s AI Summit in Istanbul in November.
The establishment of AI Academy Nigeria forms part of ongoing efforts involving government and private-sector partners to develop Nigeria’s technical talent and increase participation in the country’s emerging artificial intelligence ecosystem.
