U.S. Delegation Visits Gov. Alia in Makurdi, Holds Talks on Security and Humanitarian Challenges

Benue – Makurdi, Nigeria — December 6, 2025

A high-level delegation from the U.S. Congress, accompanied by the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State and the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, visited Government House in Makurdi today for strategic discussions on the humanitarian and security situation in Benue State and the broader North Central region.

During the meeting, both sides discussed in detail current security concerns in the region, the impact of displacement on communities, and the need for greater collaboration to support peacebuilding efforts.

Officials from both sides emphasized the urgent importance of sustainable peace, justice, and enhanced security for the people of Benue and neighboring states. The U.S. delegation also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nigeria in addressing humanitarian needs and promoting long-term stability.
