The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is urging all road users to take caution after a devastating crash claimed the lives of 17 people, including an FRSC officer, in Ogun State. The tragic incident, which occurred in the Gbara area on Saturday afternoon, involved seven vehicles and was reportedly caused by excessive speeding and brake failure.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed his deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the grieving families. He stressed the importance of responsible driving, urging motorists to maintain their vehicles properly and strictly adhere to speed limits to prevent further accidents.

The crash, which occurred around 4:00 p.m., involved a white DAF truck, a Toyota Hiace bus, a Honda sedan, a Nissan pickup from the Nigeria Police Force, two Bajaj motorcycles, and another DAF truck. Among the 18 people involved, 17 lost their lives—11 men, five women, and a young child. Only one person survived with injuries.

In response to the rising number of speed-related accidents across the country, the FRSC Corps Marshal vowed to take a hard stance against reckless driving. He also confirmed that the driver responsible for the fatal crash would be prosecuted.

Mohammed paid tribute to the fallen FRSC officer and reiterated the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads in Nigeria, urging all road users to support the enforcement of speed limits and other traffic laws.
