Two Chinese nationals and a police officer escort were tragically killed in a brutal ambush on their convoy as they made their way to a quarry site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, Uturu, Abia State. The attackers, believed to be armed criminals, also made off with the slain police officer’s AK-47 rifle.

The ambush took place on April 4, 2025, around 5:30 PM, as the victims were en route to the quarry. In a statement, Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the tragic deaths of the quarry manager, Mr. Quan, his colleague Mr. Cai, and Inspector Audu Saidu, who was escorting the convoy. Despite the violence, four other individuals, including two police officers and two Chinese expatriates, were rescued, though one of the expatriates and a police officer sustained gunshot wounds.

The police, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, launched an immediate manhunt for the assailants, working on a joint rescue operation. As a result, three of the victims were rescued unhurt, with one officer and one expatriate receiving treatment for their injuries.

A police tactical team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), visited the crime scene the following day as part of ongoing search efforts. Inspector Ijeagwa Friday was rescued unharmed.

The Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, assured the public that the culprits would be brought to justice and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. The police also appealed for information that could aid in the capture of the criminals responsible.

Residents are encouraged to support law enforcement by contacting their local police stations or using emergency hotlines to report any helpful leads.
