The former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Victor Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away at the age of 89, just days shy of his 90th birthday.
His death was confirmed in a statement released by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family, expressing both sorrow and gratitude for his remarkable life. The statement read, “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat.”
Dr. Olunloyo, who held the prestigious traditional titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was widely respected for his significant contributions to both public service and his community. His leadership extended beyond politics; he was the first rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan, and Kwara State Polytechnic, leaving an indelible mark on the education sector.
In the family’s statement, they highlighted his distinguished career and legacy of service, noting, “His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates, even as we come to grips with this devastating event.”
The family has requested privacy during this difficult time as they prepare for his final rites and a fitting tribute to a man whose life touched many.
