There’s a new wave of political energy brewing in the Labour Party as the party’s National Caretaker Committee officially kicked off its highly anticipated National Executive Council (NEC) meeting today in Abuja.
Held at the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel, the gathering has drawn key political heavyweights, including 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti. Their presence signals the high stakes and growing interest in the future direction of the party.
Leading the charge is Senator Nenadi Usman, who now heads the caretaker committee. In her welcome address, Usman made a passionate call for unity, urging members—especially those from the former National Working Committee (NWC) led by Julius Abure—to put aside internal rifts and work together to rebuild and reposition the party for the challenges ahead.
“This is not the time for divisions,” she said. “We must all come together in the spirit of progress and ensure that the Labour Party rises stronger and more focused.”
The meeting comes amid lingering tensions and leadership disputes, but party faithful are hopeful that this NEC session will be a turning point.
