In a heartfelt sermon, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, shared a profound story of how God’s instruction to keep his dreadlocks led to a life-changing encounter.
Before stepping into his pastoral role, Pastor Odukoya sought divine guidance about his appearance, specifically whether or not he should cut his hair. In response, God told him not to. To confirm the message, Pastor Odukoya turned to his sister, Tolu Odukoya-Ijogun, and asked her to pray about it without revealing what he had already been told. When she came back with the same message, it was clear that the decision was made.
But the story didn’t end there. Pastor Odukoya recounted an astonishing encounter with a woman who traveled all the way from Zimbabwe to attend his church. This woman had a prophetic vision back in 2016 that, at the time, made little sense to her. In the vision, she saw a man with long hair (Pastor Odukoya) holding a sword that burned a dog, representing the weight she was carrying. She later went through a series of personal struggles, including a painful breakup, financial loss, and the death of her mother.
In her search for God, she turned to online sermons and discovered Pastor Odukoya on YouTube. When she saw him with the long hair from her vision, she realized the divine connection. “I screamed when I saw him,” she shared, “because I didn’t know there was a pastor with long hair like the one I saw in my vision.”
Reflecting on the encounter, Pastor Odukoya said, “If I had cut my hair as I was initially planning, that woman wouldn’t have recognized me, and that moment wouldn’t have held the same power.” He concluded that God’s call to keep his hair was not just about obedience but about saving a life, proving once again that God’s plans often extend far beyond our understanding.
