Maignan Stretchered Off After Nasty Head Collision in Udinese-Milan Serie A Match

Bluenergy Stadium, Udinese – April 2025

Mike Maignan was stretchered off in a worrying incident during AC Milan’s Serie A clash with Udinese on Friday night after suffering a violent head collision with teammate Alex Jimenez. The incident took place 10 minutes into the second half, halting the game as both players were left on the ground, and raised serious concerns about player safety.

Maignan Stretchered Off After Nasty Head Collision

Maignan came charging out of his area in an attempt to clear a dangerous pass from Udinese but collided head-on with Jimenez, who was attempting to defend. Both players hit the deck hard, with Maignan appearing to briefly lose consciousness. Despite Udinese having a clear chance on goal, the referee immediately stopped play, and medical teams rushed onto the pitch.
The French goalkeeper was quickly placed into the recovery position before being carried off the pitch on a stretcher and escorted down the tunnel for further treatment. Milan confirmed in an official statement that Maignan was conscious when he left the field, though it was later reported that he was taken to the hospital for additional checks.
Jimenez also suffered the effects of the collision, walking off visibly dazed just 15 minutes after the incident. It was surprising that he was allowed to continue playing for as long as he did, with teammate Fikayo Tomori signaling for a substitution as Jimenez clearly struggled.

Player Updates and Medical Concerns

Milan fans were left anxious following the incident, particularly regarding Maignan’s condition. While the goalkeeper appeared alert as he left the pitch, the nature of head injuries remains a significant concern. The club will await further updates on his condition as they brace for any potential impact on their upcoming matches.
As for Jimenez, it remains to be seen whether any lasting effects will result from the head collision. His substitution further highlighted the growing importance of player safety, especially concerning head injuries.
