Zoom Services Restored After Widespread Afternoon Outage Impacting Thousands
Zoom experienced a major disruption on Wednesday afternoon, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access its services. The cloud-based video conferencing platform began seeing issues around 2:30 p.m. EDT, with reports peaking at over 59,000 by 3 p.m., according to outage-tracking site DownDetector.com.
The issues affected various aspects of Zoom’s platform. Roughly 46% of users cited problems with the website, 36% had trouble with the app, and 18% reported login issues. The company later confirmed it was investigating domain name resolution issues affecting the zoom.us domain, which was impacting multiple services.
By 3:55 p.m., the number of reported issues had dropped to around 32,000, and by 5 p.m., only about 3,000 users were still experiencing difficulties. Zoom announced that services had been fully restored by 4:55 p.m. EDT. The company recommended that users still facing problems should flush their DNS cache and try reconnecting.
Zoom has not provided additional details about the root cause of the issue. The brief but significant outage disrupted meetings, webinars, and remote work routines for many users around the world.
Interestingly, the outage occurred on the same day Spotify also experienced a large-scale service disruption affecting over 45,000 users. Spotify resolved its issue after about three hours.
Zoom, founded in 2011, became a household name during the pandemic and continues to be a key player in the remote work and video conferencing space. In 2025, it ranked 417th on Forbes’ list of America’s best midsize employers and previously ranked 280th among the world’s best employers. The company reported $4.5 billion in revenue and $9.9 billion in assets in 2024.
