Nigerian singer Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has taken legal steps as Rudeboy sues X user @chubbiedivah for defamation. The lawsuit follows a viral post on September 25, 2025, where the user accused him of raping his former house help, Florence.
This is not the first time Rudeboy’s private life has come under scrutiny. During his 2022 divorce from ex-wife Anita Okoye, court filings mentioned an alleged affair with the domestic worker. However, the claims did not lead to any criminal charges. Despite this, the resurfacing of the allegation has sparked heated debate across social media.
Rudeboy strongly denies the rape allegation, calling it false, damaging, and malicious. In a public statement, he emphasized that his reputation and family’s privacy must be protected. He further explained that the lawsuit aims to set an example that online defamation has real legal consequences.
Legal analysts note that this case highlights the growing tension between celebrity privacy and online accountability. In Nigeria, the misuse of social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) has often led to defamation suits, as public figures fight against damaging falsehoods spread online.
Supporters of Rudeboy argue that unfounded accusations can ruin lives and careers, while critics believe celebrities must expect greater scrutiny. Regardless, the fact that Rudeboy sues X user for such a serious allegation underscores the impact of digital platforms on reputations.
As the legal process unfolds, all eyes will be on how this case shapes the broader conversation about social media responsibility, free speech, and defamation laws in Nigeria.
