Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland at Old Trafford. Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko scored the goals that lifted United up the Premier League table and eased pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.
Mount gave United the perfect start in the first half. He finished calmly after a clever pass, settling nerves inside Old Trafford. The home side doubled their lead before the break when Sesko struck from close range, celebrating his first goal at the Theatre of Dreams.
Sunderland thought they had a chance to respond just before halftime. The referee pointed to the spot, but VAR overturned the penalty decision. From that moment on, Sunderland struggled to create clear chances. United’s goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, stood firm and produced key saves to secure his side’s first clean sheet of the season.
After the game, Ruben Amorim admitted that the performance was not flawless but insisted the result was the priority. “A victory and a clean sheet was important,” he said. The United manager praised his team’s resilience and believes the win will help build confidence moving forward.
Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris was less impressed with his side. He criticized their slow start and admitted the overturned penalty disrupted their rhythm. “We didn’t threaten enough after that,” he explained.
The result pushes Manchester United into eighth place with ten points from seven matches. Sunderland remain close in the standings but face growing questions about their consistency.
