In a major crackdown on cult-related activities in Benue State, troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have raided a suspected cult hideout in the North Bank area of Makurdi, arresting seven suspected cultists and seizing a variety of weapons and charms.
The operation, which took place on October 30, 2025, forms part of ongoing military efforts to curb the rising wave of cultism, armed robbery, and violent crimes across the state capital and nearby communities.
According to Acting Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the troops recovered:
– Two locally made pistols
– One cartridge and a 7.62mm ammunition round
– An empty shell casing
– A dagger
– Several bags containing charms and other incriminating items
The suspects are believed to be linked to multiple incidents of armed robbery, drug abuse, and violent clashes. They are currently in custody, facing further investigation and prosecution.
Force Commander Major General Moses Gara commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to continue pressuring criminal networks. He also appealed to young people, especially students, to reject cultism and embrace discipline, peace, and patriotism.
Operation Whirl Stroke reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Benue and neighbouring states, sending a strong message that cultism and criminality will not be tolerated.
