Panic has enveloped Tombo Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State following the killing of a former councillor, Mr. Atindiga Tsebee, in an ambush by suspected armed herdsmen.
The incident reportedly occurred over the weekend along the Ayilamo–Anyiin Road, near Tsukwa Village, while the deceased was returning from a security meeting convened to address the recent surge in attacks within the area.
According to local sources, Tsebee was travelling in a vehicle belonging to a community leader, Zaki Terngu Iorhuna, when the assailants struck.
“They were on their way back from a meeting to discuss the growing insecurity when armed herdsmen ambushed their vehicle and opened fire. Mr. Tsebee was killed instantly,” one source told reporters.
The brutal attack has thrown the entire community into mourning and heightened fears of renewed violence. Many residents have reportedly fled their homes, fearing possible reprisal attacks.
Community leaders have since appealed for urgent intervention by security agencies, calling for increased military and police presence to forestall further bloodshed in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Benue State Police Command, DSP Udeme Edet, for official confirmation were unsuccessful.
