The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a suspected member of a criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for vandalizing network installation equipment across five northern states.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi, the Command disclosed that on November 7, 2025, at about 7:30 a.m., operatives from the Jega Division acted on credible intelligence about a suspicious Ford Sharon vehicle, ash in colour, with registration number ABJ-581-HL, seen loitering around Jega town before being parked near the Jega roundabout.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Jega Division immediately led a surveillance team to the scene, resulting in the arrest of one Abdullahi Muhammad, 52, of Durbawa area, Sokoto State.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the recovery of several items suspected to be tools used for vandalism. These include two digging bars, one hacksaw, two scissors, one hammer, one cutter, one solar panel, twenty-one spanners, twenty-one battery head covers, one helmet, a shirt, one wire cutter, two screwdrivers, and six torchlights.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to being part of a gang specializing in the vandalization of network service installations and batteries across Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger, and Nasarawa States. He further mentioned his accomplices—identified as Nasiru Galashi, Yahuza, and Aminu—who are currently at large.
The Police Command stated that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Birnin Kebbi, for discreet investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate.
Commending the Jega Divisional Police Officer and his team for their swift and effective action, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the officers for demonstrating the principles of community policing and intelligence-driven operations.
CP Sani reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of criminal activity, including vandalism, banditry, and kidnapping, across the state.
He also expressed appreciation to the residents of Jega for their vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement agencies, urging members of the public to continue reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies for prompt response.
