The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have been dealt a major setback ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff encounter with DR Congo, as key players Eric Choupo-Moting and André-Frank Zambo Anguissa have both been ruled out through injury.

Team officials confirmed that Bayern Munich forward Choupo-Moting sustained a knee sprain during a training session, while Napoli midfielder Zambo Anguissa suffered a muscle strain that forced him to withdraw early from practice.

Although the full extent of Anguissa’s injury is yet to be determined, medical assessments indicate that neither player will recover in time for Thursday’s crucial fixture in Yaoundé.

Their absence represents a significant blow for coach Rigobert Song, who will now have to reshuffle his lineup as Cameroon aim to advance to the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers.

The Indomitable Lions, five-time African champions, are seeking to maintain their strong record in World Cup appearances but must now face their Central African rivals without two of their most experienced and influential stars.
