The Director of Mobilisation for the Obidient Movement, Morris Monye, has announced his resignation, attributing his decision to poor internal coordination and exhaustion from personally funding major mobilisation activities. He made the disclosure in a statement shared on his X handle on Thursday.
Monye said the movement failed to meet its key organisational targets nearly a year after his appointment, adding that the group’s poor performance in the recent Anambra governorship election made his continued stay untenable. He revealed that he personally financed nationwide mobilisation efforts — including travel, logistics, voter awareness, and support for local structures — without any financial assistance from the movement’s leadership or its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to him, there was no bank account or financial structure for the Directorate of Mobilisation, and communication from top leaders was virtually nonexistent. Monye also lamented that his role exposed him to threats and harassment from government supporters and security agencies, a situation that took a toll on his family and personal well-being.
Highlighting his contributions, Monye listed the creation of an online registration portal for supporters, revival of dormant groups, establishment of regional and local offices, development of a university-based NextGen network, and fundraising for the Anambra governorship candidate. He urged his successor to pursue the pending plan to equip polling unit agents with body cameras for election monitoring.
Describing his service as a privilege, Monye said it was time for new leadership to take over. The movement’s national leadership, including its coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has yet to respond to the issues he raised or his resignation.
