The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kebbi State has destroyed 25,381.495 kilogrammes of seized hard drugs valued at several billions of naira.

The destruction exercise took place on Saturday in the Kola area of Birnin Kebbi. The substances burnt included 0.027kg of cocaine, 16,951.105kg of cannabis sativa, 0.0036kg of methamphetamine, 336.978kg of Akuskura (THC) and 8,093.381kg of tramadol, all amounting to 25,381.495kg in total.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of General Operations at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, Muhammed Usman, who represented the agency’s Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), said the destruction followed a court order from the Federal High Court in Birnin Kebbi as provided under the NDLEA Act.

He explained that the exercise reflects the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking nationwide. According to him, the disposal of the drugs is a strong message to criminal networks that the NDLEA remains committed to a drug-free Nigeria.

Marwa further warned that the illegal drug trade continues to destroy lives, break homes and fuel serious crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, and banditry across the country.

Earlier, the NDLEA Commander in Kebbi State, Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto, noted that Kebbi’s strategic location has made it a transit point for drug traffickers. He added that the state’s porous borders with Niger Republic to the north and Benin Republic to the west have increased the flow of illicit substances into Nigeria.
