Kebbi orders school closures following the state government’s order to shut down public and private educational institutions in response to escalating security threats. This measure comes after a surge in attempted kidnappings and attacks that have generated deep alarm among parents, students, and education officials.

The decision was made in the wake of recent violent incidents targeting schools and boarding schools in the region. Authorities say the closure is a precautionary measure to prevent further kidnappings and ensure student safety. This follows a wave of mass kidnappings at schools in neighboring states, which has heightened fear in communities.

State officials insist the closure is temporary but necessary given the rising insecurity. They have urged parents to fully cooperate and use the time to supervise their children at home. The government also stated it will work closely with law enforcement agencies to assess when it will be safe for schools to reopen.

Local residents welcomed the directive, but many say it exposes the fragility of the school protection system in conflict-prone areas. Advocacy groups noted that while school closures may buy time, long-term security solutions are needed to safeguard education in the long run.

The mass closure in Kebbi comes as other states, including Taraba and Yobe, have also taken drastic measures, such as converting boarding schools into day schools, in response to the ongoing insecurity plaguing education across the country.
