Officers and men of the Federal Capital Territory Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), Jabi Command, have expressed satisfaction over the appointment of Mallam Abubakar Yeldu as the new Director of the agency.
The officers, who spoke in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, commended the FCT Administration for what they described as a timely and strategic decision.
A traffic affairs reporter with the Global Information Team, Taiye Ayoola, who monitored reactions at the Jabi office, noted that staff members were visibly in high spirits following the announcement.
Some officers, who preferred to remain anonymous, urged the new director to prioritise resolving the lingering challenges surrounding the availability of vehicle number plates. They described the current online allocation system as inadequate and called for a more efficient and accessible approach.
They also appealed to Mallam Yeldu to pursue the ongoing court case at the Court of Appeal, stressing that its resolution is crucial to restoring the full operational capacity of the Directorate.
In addition, the officers highlighted the need for improved staff welfare, particularly in the areas of overtime allowances and other incentives that could boost morale and productivity.
On drivers’ licence processing, they urged the new director to engage with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to hasten the issuance process, which they said currently takes too long.
The officers called on stakeholders and members of the public to support the new DRTS leadership as it works to reposition the agency for greater efficiency.
