The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, officially inaugurated the construction of a ₦39 billion project for two overpasses in Mararaba, representing one of the state’s most ambitious efforts to alleviate chronic traffic congestion on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway.
The 2.6-kilometer-long project, which includes two major roundabouts, aims to significantly reduce the traffic jams that have plagued commuters for years. Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony in Mararaba Gurku, Governor Sule described the initiative as his administration’s largest intervention on federal highways to date, calling it a key step toward long-term urban mobility reform.
The Governor urged residents to be patient while construction progresses, assuring them that while the project has been long awaited, it will provide real and lasting relief upon completion.
The contract has been awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited, with an expected completion time of 16 to 18 months. The infrastructure includes a dual carriageway overpass that will allow through traffic to bypass the busy intersections of Abacha Road and the Technology Village junction, while local traffic will use the service lanes and underpasses.
Community leaders and residents expressed their optimism, calling the overpass a long-awaited solution that will not only reduce the stress of daily commutes but also stimulate economic activity throughout the Karu Local Government Area.
With construction underway, the residents of Nasarawa look forward to a future where their daily commutes are smoother and faster, putting an end to years of frustration caused by traffic jams.
