Eyewitnesses stated that the bus was speeding and reportedly attempted a dangerous passing maneuver before the collision. The impact caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the tragic accident that has shocked the university and the wider Plateau community.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FRSC) has urged drivers to exercise caution, especially at night. The agency warned against speeding, reckless passing, and fatigued driving, noting that many fatal accidents occur during the early morning hours when visibility and alertness are lower.

Students, families, and community leaders have expressed their grief and frustration, demanding greater enforcement of traffic safety regulations on the state’s major highways. The University of Jos is expected to release an official statement as the community continues to process this devastating loss.
