The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) announced plans to prosecute popular TikToker Peller for alleged reckless driving after a viral video sparked public outrage on social media.
According to the road safety agency, the video, which circulated widely online, showed the content creator engaging in dangerous driving behavior that violated established traffic laws and posed a serious risk to other road users.
FRSC officials stated that preliminary investigations confirmed the actions captured in the video constituted reckless driving, emphasizing that such conduct undermines ongoing efforts to promote road safety in Nigeria.
The agency emphasized that social media influence or fame does not exempt anyone from the law, noting that traffic laws apply equally to all drivers, regardless of their public profile.
Authorities also warned that the growing trend of content creators performing stunts or engaging in dangerous acts online could have fatal consequences if left unchecked. They added that prosecuting the TikToker would serve as a deterrent to those who might be tempted to prioritize online popularity over public safety. The FRSC also urged Nigerians to report reckless driving incidents and discouraged sharing harmful content that promotes unsafe behavior on the roads.
The case has generated mixed reactions online: some users supported the agency’s decision, while others demanded stricter enforcement of road safety laws nationwide.
The agency confirmed that appropriate legal action is being taken and that the suspect will be charged in accordance with current traffic and safety regulations.
