Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo presented a proposed budget of 939.85 billion ₦ for fiscal year 2026 to the Edo State Legislative Assembly.
The governor presented the budget appropriations bill to legislators in Benin City, outlining his administration’s spending priorities, which focus on economic growth, infrastructure development, security, and social services.
Governor Okpebholo explained that the proposed budget reflects the government’s commitment to sound financial management and inclusive development across the state. He noted that the 2026 budget is designed to consolidate ongoing projects while simultaneously initiating new initiatives that will directly impact the lives of Edo residents.
According to the governor, significant budget allocations have been earmarked for critical sectors such as education, health, road infrastructure, agriculture, and security. He added that the budget will also focus on job creation, youth empowerment, and improving domestically generated income.
Okpebholo assured the legislators that his administration remains committed to transparency and accountability in public spending. He urged the Legislative Assembly to expedite the budget proposal for the benefit of the state’s development.
In their response, the members of the Edo State Legislative Assembly commended the governor for the presentation and pledged to submit the appropriations bill for legislative review, in accordance with constitutional provisions.
The legislators assured the executive branch of their cooperation to ensure that the budget, once approved, best serves the interests of the people of Edo State.
