The Headquarters of Defence (HCD) announced the deployment of special forces and air support units across the country to prevent attacks and bolster security during the Christmas holidays.

In a statement released ahead of the holidays, military officials indicated that the enhanced deployment aims to deter criminal activity, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes that typically increase during major celebrations.

The HCD stated that the strategy includes the use of specialized ground units and air assets to support troops on the ground, enhance rapid response capabilities, and strengthen surveillance in high-risk areas. These measures are designed to improve the protection of communities, key infrastructure, and transportation routes as millions of Nigerians travel and gather during the holiday season.

Military officials emphasized that the Christmas security operation will be conducted in coordination with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and state security forces. They added that the joint approach aims to ensure comprehensive coverage and rapid response wherever threats arise.

The Security Headquarters urged citizens to celebrate without fear, assuring them that all necessary precautions have been taken to maintain peace and stability. Security officials encouraged residents to report any suspicious behavior and to cooperate with security personnel deployed in their areas.

Observers noted that the early deployment reflects growing concerns about potential security issues during the holidays, when criminal groups seek to exploit large gatherings and increased movement of people.
