Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has asked the Federal Government to stop working with the United States military immediately. He made this call on Friday following recent US airstrikes on terrorists in Nigeria. The Islamic cleric warned that the alliance would bring more harm than good to the nation.

He wrote on his Facebook page, “Nigeria should halt all military cooperation with the USA immediately because of its imperial tendencies worldwide.” Gumi believes that American involvement will not solve the security problems. Instead, he fears it will turn Nigeria into a massive battleground for global powers.

The cleric warned that a strong US presence might attract more enemies to the country. He said, “The US involvement in Nigeria will attract the real anti-US forces, making our land the theatre of war.” He insists that no nation should allow its territory to become a battlefield for others.

Gumi advised the government to look for other security partners. He suggested neutral countries like China, Turkey, and Pakistan. He stated that Nigerians are educated enough to understand the risks. He argued that foreign powers often have hidden agendas behind their offers of help.

He also rejected the claim that the US wants to protect Christians. Gumi said this excuse would only divide the country further. He noted, “The USA’s involvement in Nigeria, citing coming to ‘protect Christians’, will ultimately polarise our nation and infringe on our sovereignty.”

Gumi also criticized the use of airstrikes alone. He argued, “Dropping a few bombs here and there cannot tackle the menace of terror.” The cleric called for more soldiers on the ground. He believes Nigeria has enough men to handle the situation without foreign troops.

This statement comes after President Donald Trump confirmed the attacks. Trump said he ordered the strikes to save Christians from terrorists. The Nigerian government also confirmed the partnership. They described the strikes as a joint effort to fight insecurity in the North-West.
