The Federal Government has released specific operational details regarding the recent military airstrikes in Sokoto State. On Friday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, confirmed that 16 GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed during the attack on ISIS enclaves. The operation specifically targeted terrorist camps located within the Bauni Forest in the Tangaza Local Government Area.

Idris explained that the strikes were part of a coordinated joint effort between the Nigerian military and United States forces. He stated that the operation was authorized at the highest level by President Bola Tinubu to dismantle foreign terrorist networks infiltrating the country. The minister emphasized that the precision of the munitions ensured that only identified terrorist targets were hit.

Addressing concerns about public safety, the government assured citizens that no civilian casualties were recorded during the bombardment. However, Idris noted that debris from the expended munitions was recovered in Jabo village, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State. Additional debris was also reported near a hotel in Offa, Kwara State, which authorities have since secured.

The minister revealed that intelligence reports had identified the targeted locations as assembly points for foreign ISIS fighters crossing into Nigeria from the Sahel region. These groups were reportedly coordinating with local extremists to launch large-scale attacks. The airstrikes were designed to neutralize this imminent threat before it could escalate.
