Bandits Demand ₦500m For Abducted Kwara Workers

Armed bandits have demanded a staggering sum of ₦500 million as ransom for the release of five construction workers abducted in Kwara State. The victims were kidnapped two weeks ago while working on a state government road project. Families of the victims revealed this distressing development during a press conference in Ilorin on Monday.

The workers, identified as Ademola Afolabi, Abdullahi Lade, Emmanuel Okuwadare Kayode, Fatai Akin, and their driver, Yusuf, were seized on December 15, 2025. The incident occurred around 11:40 am along the Sabaja/Owa-Onire Road in Isin Local Government Area. Gunmen reportedly invaded the site and marched the men into the bush.

Speaking on behalf of the grieving families, spokesperson Dare Boyinbogun disclosed that the abductors have refused to negotiate with relatives. Instead, the criminals are insisting on direct talks with the government. He lamented the impossible financial burden placed on ordinary households.

Boyinbogun stated, “How can ordinary families raise such an amount? These are hardworking men contributing to the state’s infrastructure.” The situation has taken a severe toll on the families, with one victim’s wife reportedly suffering a miscarriage due to the trauma.

The families have accused the authorities of a slow response to the crisis. They urgently called for an immediate escalation of rescue operations by security forces. They also requested direct communication and welfare support from the Kwara State Government.

This incident highlights the rising wave of insecurity disrupting development in the region. As of the time of this report, official authorities have yet to comment on the ransom demand. The families remain in deep distress as the holiday season continues without their loved ones.
