Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf met President Bola Tinubu on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The governor arrived at the President’s office at about 4:13 p.m.
The meeting has attracted public attention.
This is due to reports suggesting a possible change in the governor’s political affiliation.
Recent political developments in Kano State have heightened the speculation.
Governor Yusuf currently belongs to the New Nigeria People’s Party.
However, reports indicate that he may consider joining the All Progressives Congress.
The development has created tension within the NNPP.
Party leaders and members loyal to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have rejected the idea.
The disagreement has exposed divisions within the party.
Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement have also voiced strong opposition.
In December 2025, the NNPP leadership addressed the situation publicly.
The party said it was aware of the unfolding political events in Kano State.
It also stated that it does not support any defection to the APC.
The NNPP Kano State Chairman, Hashim Suleiman Dungurawa, spoke on behalf of the party.
He said both the state and national leadership opposed the move.
Dungurawa added that party leaders engaged those involved to maintain unity.
He urged members to remain patient for the sake of the people of Kano State.
Senator Kwankwaso later issued a warning to party members.
He said political betrayal does not lead to lasting success.
Kwankwaso stressed that defections would not weaken the NNPP.
According to him, the party’s strength comes from grassroots support.
He pointed to large public gatherings as evidence of continued loyalty.
Despite the speculation, Kwankwaso said the NNPP remains focused.
He added that the party would continue to pursue progressive politics in Kano State.
